friday night, woohoo!
i’m listening jason mraz’s “i’m yours” right now and missing the beach. the last time i was at the beach was last april, i think.
walking barefeet on the white sand
the pale glow of the moon touched soft on the ocean wave
fresh t-shirt and long skirt after shower
i like tracing back into the past. i like to unlock the drawer of memories, take each one out like i would to a family picture and sit there on the floor for a half and hour smiling to myself over the wonderful time i’d had with those folks.
about 5 years ago, on february 26, a group of us celebrated our dear one’s birthday at the beach. we had italian for dinner, then bought an ice-cream cake from swenzens. in our room, the box open wide and the delight filled the room. we savored each spoon as we were remembering the sweet moment. we played with the dry ice. and we sang happy birthday.
then one of my friends and i wandered out to the beach together at 12:00am…to swim…to celebrate…to enjoy the beauty of God at the forgotten hour of the night.
we sat, talked and laughed. i tried to bury my friend in the sand. then i walked into the ocean with t-shirt and shorts on. my friend looked at me quizzically like, “why on earth are you wearing your whole outfit when swimming?!” the moon was captivating.
another trip i took was with my mom and sisters. we took a night bus to hua-hin and got there at 2:30am. to save money, we decided to wait by the beach until the guesthouse opened in the morning. it was 5 hours of waiting filled with mosquito bites and jokes. we ran along the ocean shore, squealed over the glowing plankton and tried to stay awake for the sunrise. it was foggy that morning. hahaha.
the beach has brought me love and friendship. a lot of fond memories i carry nowadays are from there.
so beach trip, anyone? 🙂
