Thursday Communion

i have never been a part of the communion on thursday before. i only participated in the good friday’s worship service in the past…where the lighting would be turned dim to set our mood. we’d watch “passion of the Christ” to be reminded of what happened on the day Jesus was crucified. we’d sing worship songs and listened to the sermon.

but this year is different. the atmosphere was the same. no special decoration. no movie watching. just the bible, the communion table and the hymnal books.

we entered into the last hour of Jesus Christ with His disciples before the crucifixion. the only sound we heard was the pastor’s gentle voice reading the scriptures…and i imagined along. we let the Holy Spirit move within our hearts as we listened. then we sang hymns that talk about Jesus’ love on the cross. and we took bread and sipped grape juice.

nothing was fancy. no effort to make the service more than it should be – the simple meal with the Master.

i quietly partook in Jesus’ fierce determination to save mankind and His love that led Him to the cross.
